Ten Years Ago Today:
I was living in Winona in a house with 7 other people. Neil was living in England at the time. I got up, went for a run, came home and turned on the
tv in my room before I took a shower and that was when I first saw the horrific scene that unfolded that day. I remember yelling at my roommate across the hall to turn on her
tv. I called Neil and asked if he knew what was going on and I kept telling him that we were being attacked. I spent the rest of the day in front of the
tv. I had a math class that I reluctantly went to. When the professor came in, he told us to go home and call our mothers. I couldn't get a hold of Neil later that day because the phone lines were too packed. I remember feeling sad, helpless, and afraid for all the people affected. In the days that followed I remember talking to Neil and my family a lot. I went home that next weekend and was amazed at how packed our church was. There was a sense of sadness but also a sense of togetherness. There were many signs saying, 9-11 Never Forget. Ten years later, we still remember and still feel such sadness for the families that lost loved ones that day. Today has reminded me to hug my babies often and to not take life for granted. I also need to remember that when I get onto a plane and have to take off my shoes, have my self and my tiny little children patted down that that is
ok. It is a way to keep myself, my family and my country safe. I hope this day finds you happy, healthy and loving your life!
